The Matrix – Model 2660 from Synthetic Sound Labs brings classic sequencing into the modern era with their latest Eurorack module. Inspired by some of the earliest forms of synthesis, The Matrix pays tribute to the Triadex Muse in its design, a rare and mysterious piece of late-60's M.I.T. technology, and one of the earliest revolutions in musical sequencing. The Matrix utilizes classic synthesis techniques, centered around a modified 30-bit Linear-Feedback Shift Register, an ever-changing generative type of sequencing for essentially infinite possibilities.

While the original tech it's designed after may be alien to most, The Matrix makes these complex concepts intuitive and fun to explore, all in 12HP. The Scale control selects from one of nine scales— Melodic Major, Locrian, Aeolian, Mixolydian, Lydian, Phrygian, Dorian, Ionian and Chromatic. The Gate switch adds rests, while the Run switch can momentarily pause the sequence. The Interval control selects pitches from the shift register, and the Theme control feeds new data to the LFSR, generating new patterns based on your sequences. You can sequence external gear with the Gate and CV outs, or use the Audio out to turn The Matrix into its own voice with the internal square-wave oscillator.

While it won't help your synthesizer pass the Turing test, The Matrix – Model 2660 from Synthetic Sound Labs will certainly create sequences that our feeble human minds can only barely comprehend.
