Shakmat Modular Griffin's Claws

Griffin's Claws from Shakmat is a versatile quad attenuator and mixer capable of recording, looping, and playing back movements from each individual channel's fader for up to 81 seconds. These movements can be free-recorded, clocked or quantized with an external clock for creating more interesting modulation sources than your standard sync'd LFO. Griffin's Claws features a 4-input 4-output cascading mixer section, each channel sporting its own recordable fader that can be independently moved and routed to it's own destination for mixing audio, attenuating CV, or acting as its own CV source. It can also store up to 16 user presets, saving each faders unique movement for future patching.

Griffin's Claws also features a number of functions that can be applied to these recordings after the fact, such as individual channel output amplitude and rate. Changing the rate of a recording in quantized mode will divide or multiply the recording, maintaining all the fidelity of the original recording's movements. You can also select from a number of time signatures to be used in the Clocked and Quantized modes: 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4 and 9/4. Additionally, you can also translate each fader's movements into sample-and-hold style CV and gate outputs, turning the module into a proper sequencer. More than just an attenuator, more than just a mixer, Griffin's Claws from Shakmat is a quad expression powerhouse certainly worthy of your 12HP.

Shakmat Griffin's Claws: Demo
Attenuators and VCAs are the secret sauce of every modular patch, providing opportunities for creative control and sonic movement. However, simple attenuators require constant adjustments, while voltage-controlled ones never offer precise attenuation throughout the evolution of your patch. Enter Griffin’s Claws, a new way to automate attenuation in an intuitive yet detailed way in your system.

Griffin’s Claws features four recordable attenuators with offset normalization, selectable linear or logarithmic response, and cascaded mixing on the outputs. Syncing with external clocks, gate outputs tied to fader movements, Sample & Hold, non-volatile memory of 16 presets, select bus compatibility and control on rate and amplitude complete this rich set of features. With such flexibility and precision, you will find that Griffin’s Claws soon becomes indispensable in both live performances and studio setups.
