Moog Matriarch Dark
Meet the new head of Moog’s household—the Matriarch Dark, the culmination of 50 years of synthesizer legacy from Moog. It draws inspiration from classic modular systems of the '60s and '70s and modern innovation to create a wildly powerful device that begs to pushed into new sonic territories. And best of all, it is now available in a brand new darker color variant that brings back warm memories of the analog devices the Matriarch was born from.
The Matriarch is a infinitely flexible sonic dynamo, and it has to be to wrangle the massive amount of power it's packing under the hood. Featuring a variable mono, duo, or four voice paraphonic architecture allows for multiple unique patches and playing styles. Four Moog-style oscillators with switchable waveforms and hard sync drive the sound generation, and a stereo 24db Moog ladder filter allows you to carve into your waves to sculpt near limitless amounts of basses, leads, and experimental sounds. Included in the Matriarch’s architecture are powerful modulation sources: LFOs, S&Hs, dual envelope generators, attenuators, and a fully featured keyboard sequencer and arpeggiator. The fun doesn’t stop there either, the Matriarch packs in a new stereo delay effect for sending your sounds swirling into space.
Even though the Matriarch is a shockingly powerful standalone instrument, as her name would suggest yet again, she excels at folding others into the family. The semi-modular design allows for the Matriarch to easily lend her utilities, modulation and tone shaping tools to other modular synths or CV controllable devices, and even expand other Moog synthesizers capabilities such as the Mother-32, DFAM, or Subharmonicon. Advanced and novice users alike will be able to delve deep into the rich history of Moog’s modular roots by utilizing the 90 Eurorack compatible patch points for creative routing and exploration, almost every control is accessible via CV, but patching is not required as all the connections are normalled.

The filter section features two great sounding Moog filters that can be used in stereo or highpass/lowpass configurations. The filter runs into a stereo BBD analog delay that can run at short times creating reverb like sounds or longer times for standard delay or ping pong delay sounds.
There are many utility patching modules on the Matriarch including multiples, CV controlled attenuverters and LFOs. The Matriarch can be patched internally or with eurorack modular synthesizers.
The eurorack wavetable oscillator we used was an Industrial Music Electronics Piston Honda MK3. The Drums consisted of a Winter Modular Eloquencer sequencer and Endorphin.es BLCK_NOIR drum synthesizer. The Make Noise Maths was used for modulation.
Jacob takes full advantage of the Matriarch's powerful stereo filter as well as its interesting feature set as a semi - modular - paraphonic synthesizer to unleash some unworldly sounds and interesting tones.
