Joranalogue Collide 4

Joranalogue in collaboration with Hainbach brings us the Collide 4, a Eurorack rendition of a nuclear lock-in amplifier used for testing atomic energy which functions as a preamp, oscillator, filter, and more. Dubbed a Quadrature spectral computer, you indeed get through-zero quadrature, sine/cosine oscillator with a unique I, Q, X, and Y output section. I and Q are direct outputs from the oscillator, while X and Y—along with the corresponding Sum, Difference, Magnitude, and Phase—outputs are taken after dual two-pole lowpass filters.

An independent, pre-oscillator variable bandwidth filter section is capable of self-oscillating and is pingable, perfect for creating percussive sounds. You get control over the center frequency, width, and resonance, plus a built-in dual preamp. A post-filter gain stage lets you fine tune the level allowing you to add up to 130db of gain, great for any external source. Use those external sources to control the Collide 4, too, with the track option and use it as a frequency shifter thanks to the Hilbert transform network that runs into the oscillator.

Plenty of inputs and outputs means that you can use this as a single module, or patch out from different sections, patch into different sections, have each section go to different places around your rack, or self patch for new signal routing. If you're looking for something to spice up your system, a unique synth voice, a few submodules, or just the flexibility to creatively explore, the Collide 4 from Joranalogue and Hainbach fits the bill.

Collide 4: The Sonic Power Of Nuclear Test Equipment In A Module
I teamed up with Belgian Eurorack module manufacturer Joranalogue to solve one of the biggest problem I had with my wall of test equipment: I could use it in the studio, but not play it live. It is just too heavy and fragile, being about 50 years. So that part of my music remained unperformed. With our new module Collide 4 I and everyone else can now take the wonderful textures and sonic possibilities of nuclear research equipment on the road.
It is based on a lock-in amplifier, a tool made to sniff out tiny fluctuations of a frequency in vast amount of noise. But Joran took the concept further and added a frequency shifter. It is module with vast possibilities, and I can only give you a small overview and intro in this video. Check out Collide 4 at your trusted modular dealer in person now.
